On what naval said
Naval made a post one day. I don't remember which post, but I do remember that he was generally right about the thing that he was speaking about. Okay, now that I've put enough characters to get past the initial blurb, let me tell you what this blog post is actually really about
It's about the most important thing in the world. It's about conversion.
Did you see what I did? I converted you. please enjoy the blog posts I have made so far, I believe I have greater than 30 now),
Converting - converting what exactly?
Humans. From one state to another. The actual state doesn't matter. From a new user to a heavy user. From a non paying user to a paying one. From one web platform to another. From a lurker to a speaker. From an enemy to a friend. From a dead project, to one that is getting shipped.
I convert
How do i do this?
Two things, the latter more impactful than the former. But basically, a ridiculous amount of practice.
First; I have worked on software systems at scale for a long time
My career has been working on large software systems that a lot of people use. I am damn good at measuring things. It's a learned habit. If I can't see my impact, I won't be motivated to do it. I need the impact. That's my payment
Because I measure things, I am acutely aware of the effect of every single button, every single click, every single UI element. I know exactly how it affects people. When I make a hypothesis about something, and it turns out to be incorrect according to the data, I check the data. And 9 times out of 10, the data is what is wrong.
Because I'm aware. I know. I've looked at so many experiments, so many half way flags, I've implemented the hash bucketing split algorithm in so many different query engines. This is what I do. I split the population and prove my hunches.
It's just practice
Second; I have posted on 4chan, then twitter, then X a pretty ridiculous amount
Some people think that I spend a lot of time posting. I don't. I post in between running a build or test, or waiting for a reply from someone who usually replies in under a minute. I post when idle. It's like breathing, I barely think.
4chan is like posting on X, but in nightmare mode. 4chan is posting without identity, without anything to carry your word through the wind. The only thing that your post has is the content itself.
So, everyone on 4chan is plying a game. It's a game of collecting (yous)
4chan is a hyperbolic time chamber for training the ability to post. To getting people to reply. You see, the only reward you get from 4chan is a (you). A (you) is a reply, which gets marked with (you) next to the post number. And the only way to get a (you) is to post something so salient, so entropic, that other users can't help but put some respect on your name. Either by getting angry, or by acknowledging your skill
Thanks for all the (you)s
