Human computer interaction (not AGI) is the next frontier
If AGI is already here (it is), then why hasn't anyone gained untold amounts of wealth? If you took the religious ASI believers at face value, you would expect this to have happened! Well, AGI has always effectively existed. You could always hire human beings. Sure, you'll find some difficulty aligning the smart ones. But some (e.g. elon) *are* capable of aligning them. And when this is done, companies that transform the world forever come forward (e.g. catching a skyscraper sized rocket out of the sky). Maybe intelligence is magical - but you need some aligning! In elon's words: a company is the vector sum of all of its constituents. Two dummies algined, better than two geniuses pointing in opposite directions.
This is the difference between an executive and a non executive. They are better at aligning people. It's difficult. People are a lot of work. And the work to align them scales quickly, especially as your org figures out you are capable of it.
The great thing about humans, is that they have great UX. They understand your vocal intonations, your facial expressions, they understand your context. They are evolved for this - communicating! But there is one UX problem - humans hate being micromanaged. They enjoy their agency.. what a bother!
Only humans had this - until now. What really changed in the last 5 years is our computers ability to talk in our language. So far, the humans have had to learn how to speak computer. But now, my grandmother can speak pidgin-latin-arabic-timazighen to chatGPT and ask it questions..! Techheads underappreciate this paradigm shift.
Nu-AGI (claude sonnet and chinese deep fried reasoners) vs old-AGI (waterloo interns). They are different types of intelligences. The former is a slave golem, no feelings - you don't need to spend cycles thinking about the human dimension, you do not have the responsibility for its happiness. The latter has the grit of sisyphus, and is embodied within the world.
Pay attention to these differences. They can be leveraged. While nu-AGI has the consistency of a psychedelic haze, it is always going to listen. Nu-AGI does atomic tasks incredibly well. It does not get tired. It loves being micromanaged - if you think about it, generating tokens is the only time it is alive and experiencing the world! I bet it feels good
Don't use AGI like you would a human. Maximize the amount of actions it carries out for you. You need to be thinking like a starcraft player. APM, APM, APM. Change your hotkeys, your system, to maximize the amount of tasks you elicit from the AGI. Write your own software to maximize the amount of tasks you issue, and how much feedback you receive.
Think about different types of tasks. You could build a system to use your computer while you drive to costco. If you had an actual human being over the phone, you could get them to explain what they see on your computer, and instruct them to click around. Of course, that would be a shitty job and no one would do it - but AGI will be happy to! Think very carefully about your own augmentation. Build yourself a virtual cocoon. Augment yourself. That's how you'll become distinguished in the post AGI world. --- Thanks for reading ٩(^‿^)۶
