Momentum is everything

Momentum is a super power. but unfortunately, it takes a long time to build it up. And when you lose it; you return to 0. you need to pay attention to it. you need to maintain awareness of it. you can't let it slip away, because it hurts a lot more in the long run.

don't take breaks

i said i'd write a blog post every day. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. That said; I'm not giving up. I've seen people do it - and I read their content. I don't really keep up with it - I just know that it's there for me to read. I can always go to the same place on the internet, and there will be a fresh blog post. Well, until the guy dies. He's getting pretty old.

The same is true for work, for getting things done in general. The more things you get done, the more motivated you get to get things done. The more things your team gets done, the more motivated you get to get things done. these things, they compound.

Success begets success. Have you noticed? That winners keep on winning? Elon made the first successful self driving car company. then he makes the first successful rocket reuse company. then, he invents social media. then, he has the best AI in the world. (sorry, I know its tasteless to be an elon stan but he really is the perfect example for this).

Imagine being him, for a moment. someone tells you that you're not going to win. what you would you think about that person? Like, you clearly have proven to yourself that you can do anything. proven to others, that you can do anything. your previous successes make engineers basically worship you - so they do what you tell them. Investors will give you money, well, because you'll win. you know how to win. you're a winner

See what I mean? it's just momentum. man, momentum is so important

I can feel it when i start losing momentum. i will do anything to stop myself from losing it. sometimes, even just taking the tiniest step is what you need. just don't lose it - don't lose the ball, don't lose the consistency.

Every time i feel like giving up - i catch myself. it's not the day i'm losing. it's the opportunity cost of the momentum. building momentum is so important

It doesn't really matter what my state is. if i'm tired. oh man am i tired. i'm actually dying of sleep deprivation. hallucinations and all. but it is what it is. i'm never giving that up (it's not these blog posts that are making me tired, its really the hacking i do outside of work)

An exercise for you: what is that you are doing that is momentum? how can you track it? how can you pay attention to when you start losing it? you need to pay attention!

Thanks for reading!
